Dear Sir or Madam, Spent batteries and accumulators do not belong in domestic waste. Since 1998 the EU Battery Directive obligates all citizens to only dispose of spent batteries and accumulators via the retail market or the collection points especially set up for this purpose (statutory takeback obligation). The retail market and the producers are obligated to take back these batteries and to recycle them accordingly or to dispose of them as hazardous waste (statutory takeback obligation).
